Consecration to Jesus Through St. Joseph

Year of St. Joseph

A 150 Year Milestone

On December 8, 1870, Blessed Pius IX declared St. Joseph, the foster father of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as the “Patron of the Catholic Church.”

2021’s Significance

On December 8, 2020, the Holy See proclaimed 2021 as the “Year of St. Joseph for the Universal Church.”  This marks the 150th anniversary of the declaration of St. Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church by Pope Pius IX. Pope Francis began the year with a new Apostolic Letter entitled Patris Corde (With a Father’s Heart) or (Con corazón de padre).  In addition, the Apostolic Penitentiary (a Vatican Tribunal that deals with the matters of conscience) issued a decree explaining how Catholics could receive indulgences during the Year of St. Joseph.
